The Christian Doctrine of God in the East from the Beginnings of Islam to the Present

This volume gathers papers presented at the symposium on the Christian Doctrine of God in the Mashriq held at the graduate school of the George August University of Göttingen under the title “Images of God, Gods and the World.” With it Martin Tamcke, expert in Eastern Church studies and History at the University, has broken fresh ground for “a theological history of the diverse traditions of the Christian Orient” (p. VIII).

November 2009, zum Abschluss der diesjährigen Pilgerfahrt nach Mekka mit der rituellen Schlachtung von Schafen, Ziegen oder Kamelen ihr wichtigstes Fest, das so genannte Opferfest (arabisch Id al-Adha), begehen, erinnern sie sich vor allem an die im Koran als vorbildlich beschriebene Hingabe Abrahams und Ismaels und ihre Bereitschaft zum Gehorsam gegenüber Gott.

Revelation and prophethood – Koran and Bible Compared

Whoever reads the Koran from beginning to end will realize that much is said about the “prophets”. They play a key role in the concept of revelation in the Koran – and, of course, for Muhammad and his preaching. The Koran, like the Bible, depicts prophets as mortal humans; however, they have a much more significant role for revelation in the Koran than in the Bible. This is true particularly for Muhammad.
